I was all responsible today. I cleaned the bathroom, did laundry, balanced the bills, tidied up my hard drive, paid my credit card and student loan for the month, and I'm about to go grocery shopping. I'll probably have to play some video games when I get home, just to balance it out.

Also, today Jesus helped me get the lawn mowed for ten bucks. Thanks Jesus! XD

So this weekend past was the closer for NERO SC (and only the second and final larp event I got to attend this entire year T_T) and it was a blast (even though a particular fanged human with a transformation beamed me in the head during the keep battle, ahem! XP). I reprised my earth scholar, Tiyahne (aka T), and there was much gypsy love had by all. A few amusing quotes from the weekend:

Katarina (Carol): "Oh shit hole!" (which spawned 'flaming shit hole' after we visited the fire plane later ^_~)

T (me) to an undead clown who was telling bad jokes: "Your father is a mime!"
Clown: *long pause* "Okay, on a list of things I can tolerate, that is just crossing the line."

*during a discussion with another gypsy and Simon (Steve) of whether or not there should be interracial marriages*
T: "Well of course. What? Am I to deny someone a gypsy?"

Wow. Just had a very rude telemarketer.

Er... gonna have to hide this under a cut 'cause it's quite long.

First of all she was from a middle eastern country because she had a heavy accent and then the phone kept fuzzing in and out so I could hardly tell what she was saying to begin with. She starts off saying our phone number has been selected for a special offer. "Right," I scoff. "Sure it has."

No, it really has, she assures me. And she's going to send us $500 worth of shopping spree... somethings.

"Uh-huh. But there's a fee or a catch."

"No catch. We'll send them to you and if you don't like them, you can throw them away no obligation."

"I'm really not intrested," I state, in my mind ending the conversation.

"It's free," she continues. "No catch, no obligations."

"Still not intrested."

"It's a $500 shopping spree. There's no catch," she insists.

"Yeeeeah... okay. Fine, do your spiel if you must."

She proceedes to repeat everything she said about whatever the hell the $500 thing is and verifies the phone number and mailing address. Kept having to ask her to repeat herself 'cause I couldn't tell what she was saying. Finally she says, "And the name I have here is Brandon."

"Uh.. nope. He doesn't live here."

"Brandon. B-R-A-N-D-O-N. Larm-"

"He doesn't live here," I reitterate.

"What?"

"He doesn't live here. He moved out... over two years ago."

"He doesn't live there?"

"Uh.. no. He's gone."

"There's no Brandon."

"No."

I'm thinking, c'mon lady! The hell! Then I give her my name, repeating it several times, and here comes the kicker.

"There will be a nominal $4.99 processing fee for us to send you the package and you won't have any obligations beyond that."

"Yeah.. not intrested."

"What happened?"

I was silent for a few moments. Normally this is when the telemarketer says, "Oh but wait miss, there's some nifty stuff in here!" or they go "Oh well thanks for your time." But not "What happened?"

"Uh.. excuse me?" I ask.

"What happenend?"

"Uh.. I'm not..interested in the.. offer," I stammer, confused.

"Why?"

"Err.. I'm not paying for you to send me things I don't want. There's a fee. You said there wasn't a fee."

"What? You can't afford $5?!" she raises her voice. I'm baffled.

"I'm not giving it to you!" I raise my voice back.

"It's for $500 shopping spree! It's just $5!"

"Yeah and we don't really buy that much so we're not going to be using it!"

"It's $500 for free! I'm not asking you to buy anything!" She's yelling now. So am I.

"Uh yes! Yes you are! For $5!"

"It's only $5!"

"Yeah, my $5!"

"Fine," she says huffily after a pause.

"Uh-huh... Bye then."

And she hung up on me while I was saying goodbye.

What the hell was that about?!?

Yesterday I found the Clue movie (and also Dragon Slayer!) in the $5 bin at Walmart. Today I got a 25 cent raise and I now officially own my car.

Still haven't been to see Serenity yet, but we've watched Firefly in it's entirety almost twice now in preparation. I also made a Mal costume out of $5 worth of Goodwill finds.

So looks like all my family and friends made it through Katrina, though some of them may be lacking homes now. I was angry about my trip being ruined (I was visiting home that week), but compared to some of the folks who still live down there, I'll just shut my yap. I already posted some stuff here.

I might have to get a Georgia license plate within the next month. I have decided that I will be getting a vanity plate just like I have aaaaaaalways wanted. I still don't know what I want it to say though. So far my list contains: redmage, oh noes, & omg wtf. I tried to do something like 1d4+1 but you can't have a plus sign and you need to have atleast two letters. Suggestions of combinations of letters and/or numbers for a total of 7 or less characters would be super.

Our AC is broked! Cry! It's so very very hot in our house! Almost makes me want to go to work! Waaah!! ;_;

Speaking of work, while I was helping an older lady find a book in christian inspiration the other day, she suddenly says to me, "Your hair do looks like a wig." I looked at her odd and said, "Thank you!" I will choose that to be a compliment, but nevertheless, I was entirely amused.

Okay. So I'm caving in here.

I'm sure everyone and their mother knows all about freeipods.com by now. It has been proven to be true. They will actually ship you a free ipod. They get their revenue from people who either forget to cancel their offers or the folks who get less than the required number of referrals. I've occassionally checked out the site to see what offers were on there. Usually it's just crap like credit card offers and stupid things you'd never care about. Though there was a Blockbuster one that I almost signed up for once.

Today I was randomly downloading some music and thought I should peek in 'cause I'd really like to have an mp3 player and I do so enjoy the word free (even if a nominal fee does apply). There's an offer now to sign up for Rhapsody (which is a music downloading service) for a month at $0.99 and get credited instantly. Less than a dollar, 5 free mp3 downloads, cancel it in a week and that's it. And even if you don't cancel it right away, it's only $9.99 a month. Hell, I'd pay $11 for an ipod. Sure beats the $300 or whatever the hell they run.

So here's my request. I need five of you (one per ip address) to sign up a new hotmail account (that way you won't get spam to any addy you care about... brilliant, eh?), click the referral link, sign up for the Rhapsody offer (it requires a credit card for the 99 cents), and I will personally give you a dollar and a hug once it's gone through. Sometimes while I'm working, I'll pick up a random book and flip through it a bit. Now I share some thoughts with you on that subject.

I hatey hate hate mchate Cormac McCarthy and it makes me angry that I have to put him on the bestsellers list. "I'm Cormac McCarthy! The silly laws of grammar and punctuation do not apply to me! Everyone thinks I'm a great writer anyway!" FULL OF RAGE! >_<

Speaking of bestsellers that make me angry, why oh dear god why, is Confesssions of a Video Vixen on bestsellers?!?!? What is wrong with you people!!?!

I shelved this book a few days ago and laughed really loudly right in the middle of the children's department. Kristina: The Girl King. ^_~

Is anyone else severely creeped out by this cover? Snake tongue aside, there is just something severely wrong there. Several things. Everything. I kept walking around the store with that book and asking my coworkers if they were creeped out. They pretty much all shuddered. I'll take that as a yes.

I'm angry that now, after I already own the entire series of Bone in one ginormous happy volume, noooow they release it in color. Screw you guys!

While calling customer orders yesterday, I noticed someone had ordered Warlands. I'd forgotten all about Warlands! I love that series! I'm gonna have to buy me s'more comics now.

Glah... so I called in sick to work today 'cause not having a real day off in forever and a half was really starting to get to me and I was all like... angry "my head hurts" mcgrumpy pants. Seems like every day I've had off in the past 2 1/2 months, I've spent on a 12 hour car drive to some function or another. I don't ever get to bum around the house and play video games, or god forbid, draw anymore and it's starting to piss me off. That and closing one night, getting home after midnight and then having to wake up 5 hours later to open the store sucks major hairy monkey balls. I do like my job though, I just wish I weren't there all the time. Ah well... least I can afford stuff now.

I drove to Louisiana approaching the end of May, went to Phoenix (the larp, not the city) and that was spiffers. Mahalia got to be a tourist on all the planes ('cept for death I think.. that would have made her depressio though, so that's okay) and got souveniers! And met talking gold life planar dolphins! And she got to spend the day with her cousin whom she never gets to see. Whee!

Then it was my birfday (I never feel like I'm getting older though... I'm not mentally prepared to be an adult yet... why do I have friends younger than me who are married with kids!?!?).

Back to GA at the start of July. My parents bought me a DVD-RW for my birthday (which was neaters!) and when I installed it, my computer got confused 'cause it tried to give it the same drive letter assignment as my external harddrive which then somehow corrupted my zip drive which spread to my CD-R and then wasn't even allowing the computer to boot up in safe mode. So I got frustrated, uninstalled all the disk drives and had the computer running for a brief moment before I, as the computer was in peices all over the floor while I was working on it, accidentally bumped a cable and short circuited the power supply. Zebulon go boom. -_-; No Noses Optional (or anything from Kristy) for a while.

Didn't really have time to worry about the deceased electronics as I drove to Dallas a few days later (see what I meant about the spending my days off in a car!!) for A-kon first weekend of June which was indeed wicked fun. Got an award for playing Ed (of Cowboy Bebop fame) in the anime larp. MVP baybee! Not that it means anything. It just made me giggle a lot 'cause I got voted for it. X3 Then me, Cathe, Bob, and Jenna did stupid things on the Resident Evil floor of the hotel (I'll put those pics up eventually). I boughts some Inuyasha action figures to keep my collection up to date and also a plushie FFXI chocobo to be my new McNugget physrep (Mahalia's dire chicken for those of you who aren't "cool" enough to know)! Hooha! I'd always wanted a stuffed animal for him (I only had a keychain before) and this one's even cooler than the other dorky Chocobo Dungeon ones 'cause he's got a damned saddle! A saddle!! Squeee! <3 I also got to hang out with a bunch of my pals that I never see 'cept for at A-kons once a year (albeit some of them very briefly like passing them in the dealer's room and going "OMG hey! Gotta run!") and Geezer Daniel went which r0xx0red 'cause I hadn't seen him in person since... uh... damn.. like.. years ago. Sadly that wasn't for longer than a couple episodes of Mermaid's Scar. Happy birthday, old man! XP

Then it was back to GA for a couple weeks. Saw Batman Beyond (which tooooootally rawked!). It completely made up for that George Clooney peice of shit that got dumped on us a few years back. That movie made me die a little inside. As a matter of fact, I die a little bit everytime I even think about that movie. Yup... there it goes now. Anyway, there was ninjas! And the Batmobile, while not as classy as the old one, was oh so very cool. Christian Bale did an excellent job of portraying Bruce (and I've always been quite fond of Alfred who got more screen time in this one! Oh oh and Gordon! Heehee!) and I'm stoked about the next two. Only all my favorite Batman villians have been done now: Catwoman, Scarecrow, Mr. Freeze, and Poison Ivy (a-yup... died a little). Oh.. well there's also Harley. I like her a lot. Hopefully she'll be in the next one with Mr. J. That'd be super keen.

Got promoted. I'm the official Red Mage (official title of Lead Bookseller and Head Cashier) of Barnes & Noble now (which is why I'm there all the friggin' time) 'cause I can pretty much do everything! (though sometimes I have to do everything and that's kinda poopy, but I'm all kinds of important ^_^) I wear a phone and a safe key and I organize calendars and audio books and I do returns and keep track of the break schedules. (only down side is that I'm always either opening at 7am or closing at midnight to do cashier duties and never get a mid-shift) Sometimes I adopt the classic Superman flying pose and shout, "Cashier away!" before prancing off like an idiot. (I am in fact the dorkiest nerd geek evar!!11one!!1) Speaking of, the new Harry Potter book comes out in two weeks (reserve your copy today!) and I'm going to be Hermione and make wands with the kiddies. It's going to be so much fun. I bought a wand and a real prefect badge and I taught myself to knit to make my damned scarf which is taking far too long to finish. Doodeedoo. I'll take pictures of that too. NERD! XD

During that time, I ordered replacement bits for Zebulon which came in right 'bout the middle of June and now he is running at full capacity and is now sporting shiney red and blue lights! Yayers! I finally caught up on all my webcomics and have read all the emails and posts from folkses, I just haven't had time to reply yet. If we're lucky, I'll get to that today. Huzzah for impromptu day off! XP

A week later, it was off to NY to play bridesmade in Adam and Heidi's wedding with a stop over in Pennsylvania to crash at Fred's parents' house. The wedding was sublimely awesome. It was part christian, part wiccan, part larp. So cool. We were all in renfaire/larp wear (including the friggin' minister who researched fransican monks and was sooo adorable!). Adam and Heidi were gorgeous. And then I got to geek out with all of our D&D group (which had been seperate since 'round January 'cause of class conflicts and then people going home for summer) and some of Adam and Heidi's other gamer nerd friends. That was fun. Apparently the running joke of the weekend was to ask Fred and I when we were getting married. Though that lead to the always entertaining Sam's Club story, so I didn't mind. X3 Our place settings for the reception were done with miniatures (I got a kobold sorcerer!) and there was a belly dancer. For those of you not in the know, shortly after my last entry (whenever the hell that was) I spent a week in I R Dead land 'cause I was closing every night (too tired to post) and then I went home for a week (dad's router wouldn't let me connect to the net, but I did go to mah larp yar!) and then I broked my computer after that (s'ploded! XD) and also went to A-kon (which, despite everything else, was super awesome ^_^). I went slightly over a month without reliable internet access (logging onto stuff from other people's computers while yours is in a pile of bits and peices on the floor just isn't quite the same) and it was only a mere two days ago that I finally rebulit it so that it's functional again (and promptly spent several hours straight just sifting through email). Yay me! So the lj will go back to normal, I will be responding in forums, and Noses Optional will be updating once again. Wheee!

I'm still trying to catch up on stuff, but I promise I'll read everything and reply to anyone who sent emails or posted comments and whatnot. And eventually I'll get to what's been going on my end of the screen.

A note: Fred and I will be standing in the wedding of our buds Adam and Heidi next weekend (yays for them!!), so I'll actually be away from the web for a couple more days again. *tear* ;_;

Con went well. Even though a good portion of it was just spent sitting behind a table whilst reading/playing the GBA, we had fun. Met some spiffy people. Sold some stuff. Bought some stuff. Did some weird thigns. Laughed a lot. More details in the con report comic on monday complete with a series of photographs. You'll probably shake your head and say, "Man, you guys are strange ones." 'Cause it's true.
